Reviews for No Talking
5If you know anyone, but particularly a boy, who isn't much into reading, give him this book. Yet again, Andrew Clements grabs the reader's attention on the first page and keeps the laughter coming and the action so fast that you won't even notice that some very important concepts are being talked about.
Could you go two whole days without talking to anyone except in sentences that had three words or less, and those only allowed if the person is a teacher? Try it; I know I'm tempted to!
Even more amusing than the kids trying this challenge is watching how their teachers try to work around the sudden quiet. (Music class, anyone?)
The book is short, too, only one volume. Short chapters, with shifts in point of view in many that make them feel even shorter, but never TOO short--in other words, perfect for a quick read or a manageable book for anyone who wants a fun way to improve their reading skills. If I were a fifth-grade teacher, I'd assign this book first thing in September, and then I'd have my students try the experiment.
