Volunteer Application

Seedlings’ Volunteer Program

Thank you for your interest in our volunteer program. The successful outreach of Seedlings Braille Books for Children is only possible due to the steadfast dedication of our volunteer members. We are thrilled by your interest to join our mission and promote braille literacy!

Please make sure you have read the Volunteer FAQ document before applying. Thank you!

Pronouns
We want to say Happy Birthday on your special day!
Address
Please indicate their relationship to you & phone number (Multiple emergency contacts are welcome, but please make sure to clearly indicate which phone number belongs to whom).
Applicants with braille knowledge are welcome to detail their experience and/or credentials here. Also clarify the level of your braille literacy; only volunteers with significant braille proficiency will be offered tasks outside of the ones designed for non-braille readers. Additionally, we are a small organization with a big Do-It-Yourself mentality. We are very interested in any professional or personal skills you are willing to utilize to support our mission. Specialty tasks are offered on an individual basis to volunteers with the necessary background or skill set to perform it.
How regular is your availability to volunteer?
Are you available on weekdays, between 9am-5pm?
If no, you are not applicable for Shipping & Production department volunteer roles. As stated in the FAQs section above, your application will be added to a volunteer waitlist for special projects with less rigid scheduling requirements.
Volunteer shifts last 1.5-2 hours, but are flexible on an individual basis. The daily volunteer schedule is split into AM and PM blocks:
  • AM volunteers are to arrive no earlier than 9:30am and depart by noon.
PM volunteers are to arrive no earlier than 12:30pm and depart by 4pm. We our grateful our volunteer members donate time from their busy days to support our mission. Therefore, our volunteer schedule is intentionally designed to provide flexibility for individual supporters.
Are you interested in the volunteer role, Free Matter delivery?
FREE MATTER: Delivering shipments to the Post Office
  • Loading, transporting, and unloading up to four half size pallets of packaged braille books to our local Post Office (2.2 mile commute, ~10 minutes drive)
  • Unlike production, Free Matter shifts are an average of 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Must be able to provide a large(r) vehicle, such as a SUV, truck, or crossover.
  • When experiencing a greater volume of orders, the shipping department may request an additional shipment be delivered.
  • Volunteers in this position may be offered additional tasks by the production and shipping staff, though none will directly involve braille production.
Please note, this position requires access to a large vehicle and the ability to lift up to 25lbs.
