In a future world where the United States has collapsed, it has been replaced by the nation of Panem, which consists of the Capitol and 12 districts. The Capitol exerts total control over the districts, and every year, it forces each district to send one boy and one girl, known as “tributes,” to compete in a televised event called the Hunger Games.
